I’ve been reading a lot of stuff on the death of wobble or jump up or Ravestep or whatever its called lately, I’ve been sadly following the “down fall” or “upfall” of some bassweight pioneers across forums, and I’ve never understood why a dancefloor smasher is somehow cursed to equate to stupidity. There are plenty of kids out there right now taking the more muscular riddims into fresh new territory, check Raffertie, Kanji Kinetic, 16 Bit, & of course Akira Kiteshi for new forays into speaker popping onslaughts. Don’t get me wrong I’m as sick as anybody of these bandwagoneering distros pumping out davedub001 and dubbydub001 every week filling the once lean and meanonline stores new in pages with the like of Dub & Run, but more than this I actually dread a future where the open format that made Dubstep so attractive in the first place is replaced by the conserativism that strangled our home baked Hip Hop scene. Being a grumpy old git I’ve seen these pandemic backlashes follow any genre’s meteoric rise so I suppose it’s an unavoidable side product of success, but i urge all folks to fill their ears with as many tempos and vibes as they can find!
This weekend I was mostly listening to : Fantastic Mr Fox – If I, Funk Ethics – Broken Soul Music, Numan – Secrets, Kid 606 – Daylight, Akira Kiteshi – Ming, Blue Daisy – Rain drops, Company Flow – Population Control, Dorien Concept – When Planets Collide, AK Kids – Shree Bang…. Blah
lots of forthcoming treats starting to enter the production phazes. Just got back the test pressings for ACRE014: Akira Kiteshi – Boom n Pow + Raffertie’s terrifingly lawless remix already had extensive R1 play with more great feedback coming in by the day, just waiting for the lawsuit from Chuck D’s people then, jobs a good’un… check the rough artwork ubove.. Next up from current hot boy Blue Daisy will be the Strings Detached EP track listing is as follows: A. Strings Detached / B1. Hunterz B2. Wolf B3. Shallow Vicinty, hopefully this dual dose will of house & hip hop will bring about an end to the lazy FlyLo/Burial comparisons and give Blue his due props for true original sound exploration, please note the next “in a change of normal Black Acre programming” comment when reviewing Blue Daisy will lead to a severe consequences , I’ve only been around a couple years so not only is it premature to predict my output but i’d like to think there’s more to my releases than “Breakstep or Sludgy Halfstep” See ACRE005 Landslide – Dreams & Visions. I do like the word sludgy though although it more relates to my lifstyle rather than label….Other new in tings are the heavy SEX driven AK Kids EP which is storming bounderies between dubstep and glitchop (sorry tommy)! It’s totally bonkers and may appear on new Black Acre sister label Double Science, with other twisted computer assault a la EPROM…
